Endocrine dysfunction in cats

THYROID

In cats, the thyroid is bilobed and located near the trachea. The main malfunction of this gland involves hyperthyroidism.

This pathology manifests quite specific symptoms such as weight loss, tachycardia, restlessness, increased appetite, sometimes vomiting other diarrhea.

PARATHYROIDS

There are four, they measure a few millimeters and are practically inserted in the thyroid. Their job is to regulate calcium in the body. Hyperparathyroidism due to renal insufficiency is the most common dysfunction in cats, it causes severe osteoporosis which, added to renal insufficiency, worsens the clinical picture.

ENDOCRINE PANCREAS

Check your blood sugar levels. Diabetes mellitus is the most common dysfunction that can be found in this gland. The affected cat has dehydration, resulting in increased thirst and urination, lack of appetite, vomiting, dry and dull coat. The prospects for life are good as long as the owners cooperate by performing the insulin therapy and controlling the diet.
