The distinction between moist, semi-moist and dry foods essentially concerns the percentage of moisture contained in them.

As regards moist foods , they are characterized by a high percentage of humidity: from 70 to 80%.

After grinding the ingredients are weighed and blended and additives are added to this compound to ensure shelf life until they are opened. The compound thus obtained is sterilized in boxes and trays of various sizes.

semi-moist foods are characterized by a lower percentage of moisture, between 15 and 40% and are less popular with consumers when compared to moist foods.

To finish, dry foods whose moisture content is less than 10%. The ingredients are weighed, mixed and subjected to specific cooking called extrusion which consists of pressure cooking lasting 10 minutes.

We continue with the drying, cooling and coating of the surface with fats and vitamins.

In fresh foods, however, it should be noted a lower quantity of additives and preservatives, a lower percentage of carbohydrates, fats and proteins that make the diet more digestible.

Which one to choose?

Dry food is designed to cover all the needs of the dog from puppy to the elderly: it can remain in the bowl even for a whole day .

If you are undecided on how to proceed, it is a good idea to ask your veterinarian for advice who will certainly take into account the type of dog, its state of health and the physical activity performed by the animal!
