There is often confusion between linoleum and vinyl flooring.

True linoleum is a biocompatible material made from natural materials:

  • Linseed oil
  • Powder cork
  • Wood flour
  • Rosin resin
  • Natural jute

After a suitable seasoning, the material will be able to withstand loads and trampling without needing to be protected by polyurethane foils.

Furthermore, the oxidation process of linseed oil inhibits the growth of bacteria, in particular Staphilococcus Aureus.

History of linoleum

Linoleum is the first resilient floor (adaptable) and was invented and patented in England in 1863 by Fred Walton.

Originally it consisted of linseed oil, wood flour, cork flour and pigments that were processed and then calendered on a natural jute fabric.
