How to Paint Radiators: A Practical DIY Guide

how to paint radiators

Often when refreshing the paint in a room, there is also the need to paint the radiators.

Remember that painting radiators should always be done when they are turned off, so if it is winter, remember to turn them off beforehand.

If they are cast iron radiators there may be traces of rust; in this case, remove them with a wire brush before painting and use an enamel with anti-rust additive.

Let's look at the steps involved:

  • Turn off the radiators if it is winter

  • Remove traces of rust with a wire brush and remove dust. The surface must be perfectly degreased for the paint to adhere.

  • Get the right paint; since you are working in often enclosed spaces, it is preferable to use water-based enamels. If solvent-based enamels are used, ventilate the room well

  • Use a medium brush for the flat surfaces, and an angled brush for the gaps
